LEXINGTON, KY (July 10, 2001) - The National Association of State Chief Administrators (NASCA) announced today that the Maryland Department of General Service's (DGS) roofing program has been selected as one of seven programs to be honored with 2001 Outstanding Program Awards for leadership and innovation. While less than two years in operation, the DGS unit has saved more than $2.3 million in construction costs.
"This program, with the long term goal of extending roof life on state buildings, is also producing significant savings for Maryland taxpayers," said NASCA president Pamela I. Ahrens and Idaho's Director of the Department of Administration. Maryland's comprehensive program is a creative solution to providing needed services that can be replicated by other agencies in other states. Sharing 'best practices' is an important benefit for NASCA members."
The 7th annual NASCA (www.nasca.org) Outstanding Program Awards recognize innovative state agencies, organizations or individuals that have demonstrated outstanding leadership skills in innovation, creativity, advanced knowledge and efficiency in state government. The awards will be presented during the NASCA Annual Conference, August 18-22 in Breckenridge, CO.
Receiving Honor Awards in the Facilities and Property Management category were the State of Illinois' Energy Management Conservation Program; the Kansas Integrated Security System and North Dakota's Security Solution for the 21st Century.
The 2001 Outstanding Program winners can be found at the NASCA Web site (www.nasca.org).
