ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 29, 2001) – First constructed in the 1700s, the farm complex at the Hampton National Historic Site in Towson will soon receive 21st century preservation, renovation and restoration. Governor Parris N. Glendening today announced Board of Public Works approval of a State grant of $200,000 to the Board of Directors of Historic Hampton, Inc. for the project. The local share is $291,404.
“Protecting and preserving Maryland’s historical heritage is a vital part of our Smart Growth initiatives that enhance the quality of life for all,” said Governor Glendening. “Revitalizing and maintaining historic treasures such as these will keep the past alive for the future Marylanders and visitors to our State.”
Construction management will be performed by the Northeast Conservation Branch of the National Park Service. Work includes interior restoration of the farmhouse and slave quarters, roof replacement, a new gas line, new HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire sprinkler systems in the farmhouse and an electrical system in the slave quarters.
Construction is scheduled to start next month and be completed in March 2002. The Maryland Department of General Services’ Project Management and Design Division administers the State’s Capital Grant and Loan program.
