ANNAPOLIS (April 3, 2003) – In response to the heightened State of alert throughout the State and the Country, the Department of General Services (DGS) Police Force plans to install barriers around the State House complex beginning Thursday, April 3, 2003 at 7:00 p.m.
“This is a precautionary measure,” said Colonel Donald Biedenback, Chief of DGS Police. “The barriers are part of the State’s plan to step up security at the State House complex as a result of the recently imposed Orange Alert.”
Colonel Biedenback expects crews to work through the evening to install 36 barriers around the State House complex. The barriers measure approximately 12 feet by two feet. They will be used to restrict vehicle access to School Street, which is to the right of the State House and to North Street, which is to the left of the State House. Additional barriers may be used on Bladen Street just past Calvert Street, and along Lawyers Mall.
