BALTIMORE (December 23, 2000) – In the spirit of the holiday season, Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. has asked the Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) and all State agencies to conduct a voluntary giving campaign to benefit the most-severely impacted victims of Hurricane Isabel, many of whom are spending the holiday season without the comfort of their own homes.
In a weeklong campaign, DGS employees contributed several hundred dollars which Secretary Boyd K. Rutherford gave to a Dundalk family that had lost their home and have very little personal belongings. Mr. Rutherford presented gift certificates from various area stores to the mom, dad and two children.
“ The Governor’s efforts, with the support of our State employees, will help this family have a happy holiday season,” said Secretary Rutherford. “The overwhelming support from DGS employees to this initiative will help these victims of Hurricane Isabel rebuild their lives, and help restore their spirits.”
DGS and other State agencies adopted more than 30 families in the storm-stricken areas.
