Former Baltimore County Officer Brings 23 years of Police Experience

BALTIMORE (April 13, 2004) – Department of General Services (DGS) Secretary Boyd K. Rutherford announced today the appointment of R. Kenneth Ziegler, Jr. as Chief of Staff to DGS Police Chief Warner I. Sumpter. Zeigler, who resides in Hampstead, Carroll County, becomes the first Chief of Staff for DGS Police.

“Ken Zeigler brings valuable law enforcement experience to DGS,” said Secretary Rutherford. “He will work closely with Chief Sumpter as the Department upgrades the professionalism of the force and moves to improve partnerships with allied law enforcement organizations.”

Most recently, Zeigler served as liaison to the Maryland State Police, local law enforcement agencies, fire departments and other public safety organizations for Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. For 23 years, Zeigler served as a Baltimore County Police officer and was an 18 year member of the Dignitary Protection Team, a unit that provided personal protection to high profile dignitaries.

The DGS Police force has 98 sworn officers and 107 security officers who provide around-the-clock security for Annapolis and Baltimore State Office Centers, including 30 buildings, five parking garages and 17 surface parking lots.
