BALTIMORE (June 1, 2004) – The 27-story William Donald Schaefer Tower
in downtown Baltimore will reopen this morning. Maryland Department of General
Services officials say repairs to the building’s sprinkler system have
been completed and the system has been certified for operation.
A new sprinkler system pump and motor were flown to Baltimore from
Illinois over the weekend and installed in the building’s basement.
1,500 State employees were sent home last Wednesday, as a precaution,
when problems were discovered with the system’s pump.
Located at 6 St. Paul Street, the State owned-and-operated office
tower houses 17 State agencies.
