ANNAPOLIS, MD (July
21, 2004) -- Motorists who usually traverse
Bladen Street in Annapolis will experience traffic pattern changes
next week. The Maryland Department of General Services (DGS) today
announced construction of the addition to the Thomas Hunter Lowe
House of Delegates building will cause Bladen Street traffic patterns
to be reversed on Monday, July 26, 2004. The current outbound lanes
of Bladen Street will be closed at College Avenue with outbound
traffic directed to the current inbound lanes. Outbound traffic
will be rerouted back into the original outbound lanes prior to
the Calvert Street intersection. The new traffic patterns will
be in effect through 2005. For additional information on Annapolis
construction projects and their impact on traffic, visit www.ci.annapolis.md.us/news/traffic_map.html.
Plans call for the construction of a new three-story, 95,354 gross
square-foot office addition with two new levels of underground parking.
The Board of Public Works authorized award of the $28,892,000 contract
for the construction of the new facility to P. J. Dick, Inc. on June
9, 2004. Design character of the new building will be compatible
with the existing House building and the other Georgian-style buildings
within the Historic Annapolis State Office Center campus.
Construction is expected to be completed by winter 2005. The project
will be administered by the DGS Planning, Design and Construction
Division.
